As bunnies crowd the shelves of every store, there is an expectant thrill of the coming of Easter. Here are some Easter basket ideas for kids that will help you fill your kids Easter baskets with fun and meaningful gifts that reflect the spirit of Easter and the upcoming warmer season.
In our home, we highly anticipate Easter. After journeying through the desert with Jesus during lent, we experience the whirlwind of holy week and the sacred triduum, and finally we arrive at the glorious celebration of Easter. The Catholic church provides us with so much beauty in this season and we truly love to feast and celebrate at the rising of our Lord. As a part of our celebrating, we eat delicious foods, do Easter eggs hunts, and gift our children with Easter baskets. Each year I am delighted to come up with ideas for things to put into their baskets. Read on for some Easter basket ideas I came up with for my kids!
A few years ago, I purchased these baskets from Target. They are a nice size for putting some treats in without going overboard. They also stack together well and fit perfectly in our Easter bin that we keep in our storage closet. I also purchased some fake paper grass to place at the bottom of their baskets. I save this and reuse it each year to cut down on waste and save a bit of money!Â
As I begin to fill our kids Easter baskets it gives me joy to consider each individual child and their interests. I also keep in mind some practicalities, such as items they may need for the upcoming summer season. Finally, I try to find items that will help them grow in their faith and in their personal spiritual lives. Here are some ideas I came up with to fill Easter baskets this year:
Swimsuits
Kids grow so quickly and usually each year they need a new swimsuit for the summer. I take the opportunity to buy these ahead of the season and put them in their baskets to build excitement that summer is coming. This year I bought a version of thisone for the boys and this one for our daughter. I also got these reusable baby swim diapers.Â
Goggles
Our boys took swim lessons at a local hotel pool this spring. The teacher had them wear these goggles for lessons and they loved using them. I know they will be delighted to find these in their baskets and they will get a lot of use when we head to the lake.Â
Summer Pajamas
Along the same lines as the swimsuits, we switch over to warm weather pajamas during the summer. My oldest especially needs new pajamas this year so we got him these ones. For his younger brothers I ordered these.Â
Water squirters and chalk
In staying with the seasonal theme, I generally add summer toys to their baskets. I picked up these water squirters at the Target dollar spot as well as a big box of chalk to replace all the little pieces we have left over from last year. Sometimes I’ll put bubbles or a ball into their baskets as well.Â
Faith Books
Based on their ages, I ordered several different books for our kiddos Easter baskets. For my 8 year old I got the Great Adventure Bible Chronicles. My 5 year old is delighted by the shine-a-light books we have from PaperPie books, so I was very excited when I found this book! For my 3 year old, I got this book.Â
Other books
Since our family absolutely loves books (we probably have too many…) I also picked out a few fiction and non-fiction books for their baskets. My youngest boy love Little Bear right now so I grabbed a used copy of A Kiss For Little Bear, which is the only one we don’t already have. My middle son loves all things dragons and knights so I thought this book was cute for him. The kids spend so much time devouring non-fiction books, I’m excited to see them discover new subjects in the Who Would Win? Series, Picturpedia, and My Encyclopedia of Very Important Things.Â
Rosaries
We’ve been trying to pray the rosary more consistently as a family. Our boys love to hold our rosary beads and I felt like they could handle having their own set (other than the several baby sets we have). I picked these ones because they are personalized and are durable. They are beautiful and I can’t wait to give them to the kids! I also got this water reveal set for our 3 year old from Shining Light Dolls that reveals the different mysteries of the rosary. It’ll be a great way for him to pray along with us.Â
Sweet treats
We always sneak a sweet treat into their baskets each year. I tend to lean more towards chocolate because I don’t love the artificial dyes that can be found in most other candies. Chocolate bunnies are always a big hit. (Pro tip: dip them in peanut butter for an extra yummy treat!)
Baby toys
For our littlest lady, I picked up some cute baby toys. Since she is our first girl, I’ve had so much fun buying all the sweet girl toys. She will find this toy in her basket. I picked up a cute bunny lovey for her at Marshalls. Here is a similar one I found online.
Baby food
Little miss is almost ready to start eating solid foods so I’ve put a few baby pouches and puffs into her basket. We typically make all of her food from scratch but having a few of these on hand is great for on the go. She’ll also find this sippy cup which is so sweet.Â
Filling Easter baskets is fun and customizable. There are so many possibilities! What items have you chosen for your child’s Easter basket?
